PHARMACEUTICAL TREATMENTS OF HAIR LOSS

Minoxidil 2%

The local solvent used in direct contact with the skin of the head prolongs the hair’s telogen phase, that is, its effect is temporary and fully reversible.

Finasteride (it is recommended for men only)

It acts by suspending the action of the 5-α- enzyme reductase that turns testosterone into 5α- dihydrotestosterone, the high levels of which, in the area of hair follicles, incur hair loss. It assists in preserving the already existing hair and, in certain cases, it causes an increase in the number of hairs, following longterm use. Aside from its issuance through the mouth, there is also local treatment in the form of an injectable preparation (mesotherapy).
